My Family (from my father's side)

I am descendant (from my father's side) of Italians from the regions of Veneto and Trentino, northern Italy. My great-grandfather, Emilio Scapin, was born in the village of Ospedaletto Euganeo, Province of Padova (Padua) on February 17, 1877. His parents were Sante Scapin (born in Ospedaletto Euganeo on June 15th, 1843, son of Francesco Scapin and Catterina Ferrarese. Francesco and Catterina got married in Ospedaletto Euganeo on November 21st, 1838) and Regina Gallana (daughter of Giuseppe Gallana and Emilia Cilieza). Sante and Regina got married on February 26, 1876 in Villa Estense (at that time called "Villa di Villa"), Province of Padova (Padua), close to Ospedaletto Euganeo.

On November 19, 1891 Sante Scapin (48 years old), his wife Regina Gallana (42 years old) and their children Albina (12 years old), Chiarino (7 years old), Emilio (14 years old) and Servilio (10 years old) left the port of Genova on the ship Birmania with destination to Brazil. They arrived in Brazil (at the port of Vitória, in the State of Espírito Santo) on December 10, 1891 (after a 21-day trip). They entered via the Santa Maria da Vitória river and stayed in the town of Santa Leopoldina, at the colony of Mangarahy. After staying for some time in Espírito Santo, they moved to the State of São Paulo, where settled up in the city of Descalvado, working on the coffee plantations which existed here.

Sante Scapin died in Descalvado on November 24, 1901. His wife, Regina Gallana, also died here on July 9, 1903.

My great-grandfather, Emilio Scapin, got married on November 17, 1906 to an Italian woman from Romagnano (Province of Trento, northern Italy), called Augusta Friz (daughter of Silvio Friz and Maria Bottura). Emilio Scapin died in Descalvado on November 21, 1954 at the age of 77 years old. Augusta Friz died here on October 31, 1928. My grandfather, Humberto Scapin, was born on June 19, 1916. He got married to Brigida Scarelli (daughter of Angelo Scarelli and Judith Mazzaro) on October 28, 1939. Humberto Scapin died in Descalvado on December 24, 1977. My father, João Scapin, was born in Descalvado on August 8, 1943. On December 30, 1967 he got married to Beatriz Ibanhez.

Alternate etymology: derived from "scappino", dialectal Italian for the "upper" of footwear. Found throughout the region since 1500, with several variants, such as Scapinello (provinces of Treviso and Udine), Scapinelli (provinces of Modena and Bologna), Scabin (most concentrated in the province of Rovigo), Scappin (province of Treviso), Scappini (provinces of Verona and Firenze)."

The surname is diffused on the Valle dell'Adige (Adige Valley). It's a German surname which established originarily in the Region of Trentino on the comune di Garniga (town of Garniga)."

History of the Friz Family

My great-great-great-grandfather, Giovanni Battista Friz, was born on the comune (town) of Cimone (Province of Trento) on May 16th, 1814 and died in Aldeno (Province of Trento) on March 3rd, 1866. He was a miller, like his parents. He was son of Andrea Friz and Maria Lorandi. The comune di Cimone has 538 inhabitants nowadays. It's divided in some "frazione" (districts): Battistoni, Buzzi, Chiàusa, Cimòneri, Costa, Còvelo, Dossi, Finestrella, FRIZZI (the Friz family is originary from this frazione. Only 17 inhabitants live there nowadays), Gazzi, Molino, Petrolli, Pietra, Pìfferi, Postal, San Giorgio, Sant'Anna.

Giovanni Battista Friz got married for the first time on July 26th, 1837 in Cimone. His wife was Domenica Buzzi (daughther of Antonio Buzzi and Marianna Tomedi). Domenica died on December 28th, 1840, with only 22 years old. In 1840 Giovanni Battista Friz moves to the neighbour town of Aldeno, where he got married to Dorotea Moratelli on August 8th, 1842. Dorotea was born in Mattarello (TN) in 1821 and died in Aldeno on March 3rd, 1862. She was a farmer like her parents.

My great-great-grandfather, Silvio Francesco Friz, was born on the comune di Aldeno (TN) on April 17th, 1847 and got married to Maria Teresa Bottura (born in Romagnano (TN) on January 29th, 1854, daughther of Giovanni Bottura and Marianna Caresia) on February 19th, 1872 in Romagnano (TN). Silvio and Maria emigrated to Brazil around 1894-1895. They had 15 children.

I am descendant, from my mother's side, of Spaniards and Portugueses. My grandfather Antonio Ibáñez Pérez was born on July 15th, 1902 on the town of Dúrcal, Province of Granada,on the region of Andalucía, southern Spain.

Antonio was son of José Ibáñez López (son of Antonio Ibáñez Morales and Maria López Fernandez) and of Elena Pérez Morales (daughther of António Pérez Fernandez and Maria Josefa Morales Castillo). My grandfather arrived in Brazil, with his parentes, on December 1913 in Santos/SP. He got married to Matilde Gonçalves da Silva on March 27th, 1937. Matilde was daughther of Domingos Gonçalves da Silva (born in Portugal in 1848 and died in Descalvado (SP), Brazil, on June 10th, 1936) and of Antonia Romualda da Silva (born in Descalvado in 1865 and died in Descalvado on November 15th, 1940). Domingos was son of Domingos Gonçalves da Silva and de Anna Gonçalves da Silva. Antonia was daughther of José Caetano de Oliveira and Maria Manoela Franco
